Travel: Amsterdam 2014

Last week I returned home from the most hectic and tiring few days in the beautiful city of Amsterdam, Holland. It was a University study trip so we had to work hard and visit galleries, museums and book shops as well as squeezing in the things we all wanted to do in the little spare time we had. I'd go back in a heartbeat, it is the most bizarre and exciting place I've ever visited.

The Tuesday was spent mostly on a bus travelling. All together it took us fourteen hours to get to our hostel from the centre of Swansea back in Wales. Would not recommend bussing it to Europe ever again, I will be flying everywhere from now on! We stayed at a hostel called StayOkay in Zeeburg. It was wonderful, it was just like your average lovely, clean and tidy, colourful hotel. Plus the rooms were huge and our beds were ridiculously comfy.

On our second day we visited the Kröller Müller museum and sculpture park which was amazing. The artwork inside the gallery is incredible and the sculptures outside are just phenomenal. When we were done looking at the art we took a bike ride on the cycle path that circles the sculpture park which was lovely!

On day 3 we had the day to ourselves to do our own self directed research and gallery visits. Our group ended up visiting the Stedelijk Museum, the Rijks Museum, the Diamond Museum and the best bookshop/gallery I've ever seen called Boekie Woekie. The Stedelijk is all modern art and design and I would say it was my favourite museum of them all. The Rijks was interesting but mostly very old art, nowhere near as exciting as anything inside the Stedelijk.

In the evenings we did a lot of walking, exploring and eating. We saw the red light district and visited some coffee shops, both things you need to do while visiting Amsterdam! 100% would go back and stay again, it was just amazing.
